Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Murder At Mine ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Murder At Mine mobile app and website (together, the "Service"). Murder At Mine is a social party game in which a host generates an AI-written murder mystery and guests join a shared game using a short code. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
Information We Collect
- Account information. When you create an account we collect your name and email address. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive basic profile information from that provider (such as your name and email; with Apple you may choose to share a private relay email). Authentication is handled by our provider, Clerk.
- Payment information. When a host purchases a game, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not collect or store your full card number; Stripe handles card details directly and provides us with limited transaction information (such as a confirmation and the last four digits).
- Gameplay information. To run a game we process the player names or nicknames entered by the host or players, game codes, in-game choices such as votes, and the generated mystery content associated with your game.
- Device and notification data. If you enable push notifications, we collect a push notification token and basic device information (such as device type and operating system) so we can deliver game updates.
- Usage and analytics data. We collect information about how the Service is used — such as screens viewed, features used, app version, language/locale, and approximate region derived from your IP address — to understand and improve the product. On the app we use PostHog and limited Meta and TikTok App Events. On iOS, Apple's tracking choice determines whether those providers may use the advertising identifier for cross-app tracking; limited measurement can continue without that identifier. On our website we use Google Analytics and, with your consent, the Meta Pixel and TikTok Pixel. These providers may receive device identifiers, IP address, browser or device details, pages or screens viewed, app activations, and selected conversion events such as registration, checkout, and purchase.
AI-Generated Content
The mysteries are generated using third-party AI services (OpenAI and Anthropic). To create your game, we send the game configuration and the player names or nicknames you provide to these services so they can produce personalised characters and content. We do not send your email, payment details, or account identifiers to these AI providers. Please avoid entering sensitive personal information as a player name.
How We Use Information
- To create your account and authenticate you.
- To generate, run, and synchronise live games across players.
- To process payments and prevent fraud.
- To send game-related push notifications.
- To analyse usage, fix problems, and improve the Service.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
Device Permissions
- Notifications. Used to alert you to game events. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
- Camera. The camera permission exists only to support an optional card-scanning feature in our payment provider's library. The app does not otherwise access your camera, and you can decline this permission without affecting gameplay.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers who process it on our behalf to operate the Service, including: Clerk (authentication), Stripe (payments), OpenAI and Anthropic (AI content generation), Expo (push notification delivery), PostHog and Google Analytics (analytics), Meta and TikTok (limited app advertising measurement and, on the website, advertising technologies where you consent), and our cloud hosting and database providers. Within a game, the player names and in-game actions you provide are visible to other participants in that game. We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect our rights and users.
Advertising Tracking Choices
On the website, Google Analytics runs automatically to measure site usage. Optional Meta and TikTok advertising technologies do not load until you select “Allow cookies.” You can change that choice at any time using “Cookie preferences” in the footer. In the iOS app, Apple’s tracking permission controls access to the advertising identifier and cross-app tracking. If you decline, limited app-event measurement can continue without that identifier. You can change the permission in iOS Settings. Android users can limit or reset advertising identifiers in their device privacy settings. Declining advertising tracking does not prevent you from using the Service.
Data Retention
Game data is temporary and is automatically deleted a period of time after the game ends. We retain account information for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal information at any time by contacting us.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@murderatmine.com. You may also delete your account from within the app.
Children's Privacy
The Service is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
International Transfers
We and our service providers may process and store information in countries other than the one in which you live. Where we transfer information internationally, we take steps to ensure it remains protected in accordance with applicable law.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
